The club is planning its annual celebration. A gift for a retired miner should have something personal about it. Or you're simply looking for a motif with a story for your next craft idea. This wooden cutout to DIN21800 shows the classic miner's tools. It brings a piece of mining tradition to your table and suits your next decoration idea. The poplar plywood is untreated, so you decide how the symbol will finally look.

What changes for you

  • You design the motif exactly as you like. The wood is left natural and can be glued, painted or oiled.
  • Your decoration needs no finishing work. The laser-cut edges are smooth and have the typical brown rim.
  • You'll find the right size for every idea, from a small hanging tag to a large wall piece. You can choose the width from 5 to 50 cm in 1 cm steps.
  • Larger projects such as club events or table decorations for lots of guests are easy to supply. The cutout is available singly or in sets of 10, 25, 50 or 100.
  • You're holding a piece of real craftsmanship. It is made in Bütic's own production in Pößneck, Thuringia.

Why this wooden cutout makes a difference in everyday life

A symbol with meaning works differently from random decoration. Anyone connected with mining recognises the motif at first glance. That turns a simple gift into a keepsake. Whether on a present, on the wall of the clubhouse or as part of a craft project: the plain wood keeps the symbol calm and unadorned, which suits its history.

Material & finish

The cutout is made from 3 mm poplar plywood and is laser-cut. This gives smooth, clean edges with the characteristic brown rim, ready for you to work on straight away. The surface is untreated, neither varnished nor glazed. Paints, glues and oils adhere well, and you decide the look yourself. Wood is a purely natural material. Differences in shade, fine structures in the grain and small knots are part of it. They make each piece unique and are not a defect.

How to use the wooden cutout

  • Crafting with children or grandchildren: everyone paints their own symbol. In the end, a very personal keepsake hangs on the pinboard.
  • For a milestone birthday or a miner's retirement: the motif on the gift shows straight away that you've put thought into it.
  • In the clubhouse or at the miners' parade: as wall decoration, table decoration or name sign, every piece shows the same motif in the same wooden cutout.
  • For shop decoration or events with a mining theme: with sets of up to 100 pieces, you can fit out large areas quickly and uniformly.
  • As an element for keepsakes: glued, labelled or oiled, the cutout becomes a small one-of-a-kind piece.

Good to know about hammer & pick

The crossed tools – the mallet as hammer and the iron as chisel – have been the sign of mining for centuries. DIN 21800 standardises them as a symbol. That's why the motif is ideal for anything to do with mining tradition: club events, gifts for miners, memorial pieces or decorations around the miners' greeting “Glück auf”.

Care & durability

There isn't much you need to do. Untreated wood stays at its best if it is kept dry and simply dusted when needed. Avoid constant moisture. If you want to make the cutout more resistant, you can paint, glaze or oil it. That way you'll enjoy the surface for a long time.

Frequently asked questions

Is the wood already treated? No, the cutout is untreated – neither varnished nor glazed. So you can paint it, decorate it, coat it or oil it straight away.

Where does the brown rim on the edges come from? The cutout is laser-cut. This creates the typical brown rim. It is a hallmark of the process and also gives smooth, clean edges.

Do all cutouts look exactly the same? The shape is identical, the wood is not. As a natural material, it shows different shades, fine structures and occasionally small knots. Every piece is unique.

How do height and width relate to each other? As a guide: if you choose a height of 10 cm, the width is 9 cm.

Can I use the cutout outdoors? Untreated, you should protect it from constant moisture. A suitable coat of paint or oil makes the surface more resistant.

The plywood is just the material. What matters is the moment someone picks up the symbol, recognises it at once – and thinks of their own history with mining. Simply choose your size and quantity and start creating.
