Fluorescent acrylic glass absorbs UV radiation across its whole surface. It carries the light through the material and releases it, concentrated, at the edges. Does the suncatcher glow without direct sunlight? Yes. Even on cloudy days or at early dusk, there's enough UV radiation for the edges to glow visibly.

Does the suncatcher need power or batteries? No. The glowing effect comes from the fluorescent acrylic alone. It captures daylight and releases it at the edges.
