Not sure which to choose? With a Bütic gift voucher you can never get it wrong.A name on the nursery door, a saying above the dining table or a welcome in the hallway. Sometimes a single word is all a room needs to feel like yours. With these wooden letters in the Ubuntu font, you put together your own text letter by letter. They are made for your wall. With upper- and lower-case letters, you create exactly the lettering that suits you.
What changes for you
- You design your lettering just the way you imagine it. You choose each letter individually, in upper or lower case and in four heights from 5 to 20 cm.
- Your decoration stays adaptable. You can stick things onto the untreated poplar plywood, paint it or oil it. That way, it suits any interior style.
- Fixing the letters is easy. You can glue them or drill them. Both work well with a material thickness of 3 mm.
- Your text looks calm and inviting. The light, slightly beige natural colour of the poplar wood suits living spaces as well as shops and cafés.
- You get clean, crisp outlines. Each letter is laser-cut and gets the typical brown edge that neatly frames the lettering.
Why these wooden letters make a difference in everyday life
Lettering made of wooden letters is more than decoration. It turns a blank wall into a place with meaning. The name on the door sign tells your visitors straight away who lives here. The word above the sofa gives the room its own tone. And because wood looks warm and natural, you get this effect without anything flashy – quiet, but clearly visible.
Material & finish
The letters are laser-cut from 3 mm poplar plywood in our own production in Pößneck. Laser cutting gives clean edges with hardly any burrs. It also creates the characteristic brown edge that gives every character a fine outline. The wood is left untreated. You can use it straight away or paint, oil or decorate it as you like. Please note: wood is a purely natural material. Each letter has its own shade. Small irregularities in the grain or tiny knots can occur. This makes every piece unique and is not a defect.

How to use the wooden letters
- In the child's room: Their name on the door – and your child can see from a distance that this room is theirs alone.
- In the living room: A favourite word as wall decoration above the shelf – and suddenly the wall says something about you.
- For crafts: Paint the letters, decorate them and add them to a gift – and a small present becomes a personal keepsake.
- In a café or shop: Signage on the counter or shelf – your guests find their way at a glance, and the interior stays natural.
- For celebrations: The guest of honour's name on the gift table at a christening or wedding – and the table gets a festive centrepiece with little effort.
- Our tip for whole words: Order all the letters of a word in the same size, even if it starts with a capital letter. The lower-case letters follow the scale of the font and are automatically a little shorter. This way, capital and lower-case letters match neatly.
Good to know about the Ubuntu font
The Ubuntu font was designed for the operating system of the same name. It is known for its clear, friendly and easy-to-read shapes. The name comes from southern Africa and roughly means humanity and community. That is why this font suits name signs, door signs and welcome messages so well – wherever a word is meant to bring people together.
Care & durability
There is not much you need to do. For wall decoration or a door sign indoors, you can simply leave the letters as they arrive. If you paint or oil them, you give the surface your own colour. Keep the untreated wood away from constant moisture. That way, your lettering keeps its shape and its light natural colour for a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Can I paint the letters or stick things on them? Yes. The poplar plywood is untreated. You can paint it, oil it, stick things on it or decorate it your own way.
Why is a lower-case letter shorter than the chosen size? The chosen height refers to the capital letters. Lower-case letters are made to the scale of the font, just as they are designed in the typeface. So please order all the letters of a word in the same size.
Where does the brown edge come from? The letters are laser-cut. This creates the typical brown edge. It neatly frames the outlines and is part of the letters' character.
Are colour differences between the letters normal? Yes. Wood is a natural material. Brightness, grain and tiny knots vary from piece to piece and make every letter unique.
Can I put the letters up outdoors? The letters are untreated and intended for indoor use. Please avoid constant moisture.
Plywood and material thickness are just the details. What matters is the moment you read your word on the wall and know: this is my home. Simply choose your letters and size – and put your lettering together.
