Good to know about Comic Sans MS

Comic Sans MS was designed for Microsoft by Vincent Connare in the mid-1990s. It was inspired by the hand lettering in comic books. These round, light-hearted shapes still make the font popular for anything meant to look cheerful: children's bedrooms, craft projects, party decorations and tongue-in-cheek name signs.

Care & durability

There isn't much you need to do: dusting with a dry cloth now and then is enough. As the poplar plywood is untreated, protect the letters from constant moisture. If they are going to hang somewhere they will get some wear, seal them yourself with paint, varnish or oil. This way, they keep their clear shape and light natural tone for a long time.

Can I paint or decorate the letters? Yes. The poplar plywood is untreated. You can paint, oil, varnish or stick things onto it – whatever your idea.

Why is a lower-case letter shorter than the size I chose? The height you choose applies to the capital letters. Lower-case letters are made to the same scale, as the font dictates, so they turn out shorter. For a word, order all the letters in the same size so that the lettering looks right.

Where does the brown edge come from? The letters are laser-cut. The brown edge is typical of this process and brings out the outlines of the font.

How do I attach the letters? You can glue or drill them. At just 3 mm thick, they are light enough for mounting adhesive, adhesive pads or small nails, depending on the surface.
