The characters are made of 3 mm poplar plywood. Despite its low thickness, it keeps its shape and is easy to work with. Every character is laser-cut in our own production in Pößneck. That gives the clean outline and the typical brown edge that nicely emphasises the font. The wood is unfinished and in its natural state. The light beige tone works on dark backgrounds as well as with colourful designs. Slight differences in tone and grain make every piece a natural product with its own character.

• Important note on size: The height you choose refers to the numbers. Small special characters such as full stop, comma or minus are made to the scale of the font. That makes them much smaller. In Arial, for example, a full stop at a font height of 10 cm is only about 1.4 cm.

Good to know about poplar plywood

Plywood consists of several veneer layers glued crosswise. That is why it keeps its shape surprisingly well even at just 3 mm and hardly warps. Poplar is also particularly light. This makes the characters ideal for sticking onto doors, boards or gifts. They hold with little glue and put no strain on the surface.

Care & durability

You don't need to do much. Indoors, the unfinished characters stay looking good for a long time if you protect them from constant moisture. If you want to add colour or make them more resistant, you can simply paint, oil or varnish them. The wood takes paint well.

Can I paint or decorate the characters? Yes. The poplar plywood is unfinished and in its natural state. You can paint it, oil it, stick things on it or leave it natural.

Why is my full stop or comma so small? Small special characters are made to the scale of the font, just as they appear in the typeface. That is why they are much smaller than the number height you choose. This is intentional, so that the proportions of your lettering match.

Where does the brown edge come from? The characters are laser-cut. This creates the typical brown edge. It emphasises the outline and is part of the natural character.
